Cineplex: Senior Pricing

Cineplex does not run a senior discount programme with a published saving. What it runs is a Senior ticket category, and understanding that difference is the whole entry. When you buy a ticket, Cineplex sells by category: a child is 3 to 13, general admission is 14 to 64, and a senior is at least 65. Choosing the senior category is how the lower price reaches your ticket, and the senior price usually sits below the general admission price for the same showing.

How to claim it

1. When you book online or buy at the theatre, choose the Senior ticket type for each guest aged 65 and older.
2. Bring photo ID that shows your age, in case staff ask for it when you collect your tickets.
3. Look at the senior price before you pay, and compare it with the general admission price beside it, since the price in front of you is the only one that counts.

The fine print is that Cineplex publishes no national senior price and no percentage saving. The senior price is set by each theatre, and by format as well: a regular showing, 3D, UltraAVX, IMAX and VIP all price their tickets their own way. The same film on the same day can carry a different senior price at two theatres in the same city, and there is no chain figure we can honestly print here.

Tuesdays deserve one warning. On Tuesdays the senior and general prices are often the same, because Tuesday pricing applies to everyone in the theatre. A senior ticket on a Tuesday is still simple to buy, but it may save nothing at all that day, and the everyday senior category price on another day can be the better deal.

Practical tip: choose the Senior ticket type every time you book after age 65, then glance at the general price next to it. That one glance tells you what the category saved you on that visit, with no guessing involved.
