Ontario Northland: 15% Off for Seniors (60+)

Ontario Northland's passenger tariff gives travellers aged 60 and over 15% off fares on its motor coach services, the Polar Bear Express, and the Northlander.

Ontario Northland carries passengers across northern Ontario by bus and by train, and its published passenger tariff gives seniors a straightforward saving: individuals aged 60 and over get 15% off their fares. The tariff covers Ontario Northland motor coach services, the Polar Bear Express, and the Northlander rail service, so the same senior fare follows you across most of the network.

How to claim it

  1. Choose your route and travel date, and ask for the senior fare when you book, making clear that you are 60 or over.
  2. Carry acceptable proof of age ID when you travel, since the tariff requires it for the senior fare.
  3. Check the fare quoted before you pay, and confirm that the 15% senior saving has been applied.

One point needs care, and it is worth knowing before you book. Ontario government material for the relaunched Northlander train lists its senior fare category at 65 and over, priced 15% under the adult fare. That age sits higher than the 60 and over rule written into the Ontario Northland tariff itself. If you are aged 60 to 64 and booking the Northlander, confirm at booking time that the senior fare applies to you, so the price you expect is the price you pay.

Practical tip: the Polar Bear Express run to Moosonee is a journey worth taking for its own sake, and 15% off the fare softens the cost of a trip that takes some planning.
