TD Canada Trust: Senior Fee Rebates
TD applies a senior rebate at 60 and over: the All Inclusive account saves $8.50 a month, and Unlimited Chequing saves $6.00.
TD gives account holders aged 60 and over a monthly rebate on its main chequing accounts. The rebate is a fixed dollar amount taken off the monthly fee, and the size of the rebate depends on the account you hold. If you turned 60 and never told your bank, there is a fair chance you are still paying the full fee, which makes this one of the easiest savings on this site to claim.
How to claim it
- Look at your latest statement to find your account type and the monthly fee you pay today.
- Call TD or visit a branch and ask for the senior rebate to be added to your account.
- Check the next statement to confirm the lower fee has started.
The All Inclusive Banking Plan carries an $8.50 rebate, which brings the fee to $22.45 a month. The TD Unlimited Chequing Account carries a $6.00 rebate, bringing the fee to $11.95. The TD Every Day Chequing Account carries a $3.75 rebate, bringing the fee to $8.20.
One account follows a different rule. The TD Minimum Chequing Account has no monthly fee only for seniors who collect the Guaranteed Income Supplement. If you receive that supplement, say so when you ask, since the branch may need to confirm that you qualify. Account fees change over time, so confirm the current figures with TD before you make a switch based on them.
Practical tip: if you keep a large balance, ask whether maintaining the required minimum balance would waive the fee entirely, and take whichever option leaves you further ahead.
