4 Famous Stores With No Senior Discount in Canada

Costco, Walmart, Starbucks and Home Depot Canada get asked about senior discounts constantly. The honest answer is no. Here is what to do instead.

The short answer No. Costco, Walmart, Starbucks and Home Depot Canada were each checked against the company's own published policies, and none of the four offers a senior discount in Canada.

Search for “Costco senior discount” and you will find confident articles claiming one exists, complete with percentages. In Canada, it does not, and neither do senior discounts at three other famous chains. We checked each one against the company’s own published policies, the same standard we apply to every “yes” in our directory.

This page exists because a directory that only says “yes” is just advertising. Where the answer is no, we say no, and point you at what actually saves money at that store instead.

Does Costco Canada have a senior discount?

Costco has no seniors day, no membership price based on age, and no senior discount at the till, in Canada or anywhere else. Some articles confuse it with US programmes for specific stores that do not exist here.

What works instead: the Executive membership’s 2% annual reward is the closest thing Costco offers to a loyalty saving, and it has nothing to do with age. If you shop there often, the math on the Executive tier is worth doing once. Beyond that, the warehouse model itself is the discount: unit prices on staples are the reason to go.

Does Walmart Canada have a senior discount day?

Walmart Canada does not run senior discount days at Canadian stores, and there is no senior price on groceries, pharmacy or anything else. You will find US blogs describing Walmart senior hours from the pandemic era. Those were temporary, American, and over.

What works instead: Walmart’s Canadian play is rollbacks and flyer pricing, which apply to everyone. If Walmart is your store, the flyer is your discount day: shop it the way you would a seniors day elsewhere, with a list built around the specials.

Starbucks Canada: no senior discount

Starbucks ended its senior discount decades ago and has not brought one back in Canada. The barista at your local store cannot apply one, because there isn’t one to apply.

What works instead: the Starbucks Rewards programme is free and earns free drinks on a points cycle; if coffee out is a habit, that is the saving that exists. And if what you want is a senior coffee price, independent cafés and diners are far more likely to have one. Many simply don’t advertise it. Ask.

Does Home Depot Canada have a senior discount?

Home Depot Canada runs contractor pricing, volume discounts and periodic promotions, but no discount based on age for seniors. (Its US stores are the same: any article promising 10% off for seniors at Home Depot is describing a programme that does not exist on either side of the border.)

What works instead: for a purchase as large as a renovation, the Pro desk’s volume pricing beats any senior discount would. For everyday hardware, watch the seasonal flyer (garden in spring, snow in fall) and note that several competitors and local hardware stores do quietly offer senior consideration if you ask.

Why we publish “no”

Every store on this page was checked the way we check everything: against the retailer’s own published policy, on the record. Programmes change, and if any of these four launches a senior discount, this page will say so and the directory will list it the same week.

Until then: spend your asking where it works. The directory lists the places that have already said yes.

Why do other websites claim these discounts exist?

Knowing where not to ask is a saving too.
